| The school is coming up on a 1.5 acre site located in the village of Sivanvoil , Thiruvalluvar District . This place is about 40 kms from Chennai. A rural area, the place is deprived of quality education, a shortcoming the RCMC and VES decided to address for the benefit of the children in the surrounding rural areas. | |

About the project

| RCMC is providing Rs 2.5 million (US$ 63,000) in the first phase of establishing the school which would cater facilities upto the sixth grade | |

| Rotary Central Vivekananda Vidyalaya is located at the junction of three panchayat unions in Tiruvalluvar District. These are Pulliyur, Sivanvoil and Melakondiar. Each village has a population of between 3000 and 3500. The inhabitants of these villages are predominately agriculturists, while some are employed in brick making kilns. There are two corporation schools at a distance, but there is no quality education for the residents. This school will bring quality education to the rural poor benefiting the residents of these areas. | |

Vivekananda Education Society

| Swami Vivekananda, the patriotic monk, believed that the aim of all education should be value based, and character building. He laid stress on ethical and moral values along with modern science and technology. An integrated development of body and mind was emphasized. He wanted education to reach the masses. Inspired by Swamii’s lofty ideals, Vivekananda Education Society, a non profit service organization, was established in 1972 and has dedicated its heart and soul to provide quality education to the poor and middle income families through its network of 16 schools located in and around Chennai. | |

| Rotary Central Vivekananda School meets the needs of a population so close to the city of Chennai, but until now deprived of quality education. The school started functioning with the academic year commencing in June 2007. | |
